The Basics of Glue-Down Hardwood Floors Installation

Save money without any outside assistance by using our do-it-yourself tutorial for glue down hardwood floors installation.  You can give your floors a beautiful and brand new restored look by using this step by step guide.
Supplies You Will Need:
  • Scraper
  • Wood Glue
  • Wood Planks
  • Tape Measure
  • Pry Bar
  • Painters Tape
  • Spacers
  • Leveling Compound
Instructions:
  1. If your old flooring is carpet, begin removing the carpet starting from the door of the room and then working your way backwards. This makes things easier when it's time for you to leave the room. After you have finished removing the old flooring you want to make sure that the base flooring is even before you place your new hardwood floors down.
  2. To ensure that your base flooring is even remove any old tacks that may be lingering around from your old flooring, remove any old glue with your scraper, and use your leveling compound to fill any cracks that your base floor may have.  If you apply a leveling compound, wait a day until it is completely dry. Once everything is even and you have gotten your base floor clean, you are ready to move on to the next step.
  3. To keep all the planks even to the wall use your tape measure. You will want to measure the longest wall in the room. Use a chalk line as a guide for where you should start. As a test lay down some of the wood planks to see how they line up.
  4. Carefully apply an even coat of wood glue to your base flooring. Make sure that it is even and does not clump. Then you are ready to lay your wood planks down starting from the wall and working your way forward.
  5. Use the pry bar to help you apply spacers to ensure your expansion gap. Finish by using painters tape to make sure that all of the rows of hardwood are secured in place and let it dry overnight.

How to Install Bathroom Tile for Non Professionals

It's much more economical to do things yourself – especially in financially-difficult times such as these.  Rather than pay for home products and the service of workers, one can circumvent the cost of the latter by self addressing the project.  Our entire site is devoted to helping people just like you with DIY projects such as how to install bathroom tile.

To begin, measure the length and width of the bathroom, enabling the assessment of how much cement, tile, and grout is needed.  Tiles come in many varieties.  Consult a professional or an in-store worker if you need help deciding on tile.

Next, you must prepare the sub floor.  Tiles need placement on clean, flat surfaces.  Tiles are heavy; be sure the sub floor is structurally sound.

Tiles come in a vast variety of shapes, and can be arranged in a number of ways.  You don't have to be a professional to know how to install bathroom tile so it looks professionally done.  Start with the center of the door jamb and work your way out.  Such a decision minimizes the number of tiles that must be custom cut and end at the edges of the bathroom floor.

The resources for learning how to install bathroom tile are available, yet in some cases, it's recommended to ask questions.  Questions can be answered by in-store professionals and won't come at a price!  Relate your experience level, type of tiles, and sub-floor material chosen to professionals and ask for their insight regarding any safety precautions or preliminary steps.  This could save you a lot of headache in the later steps.

As previously referenced, start at the center of the door jamb and work your way out towards the room's other side.  Use consistent measurements regarding the space between tiles.  Most adhesives begin to solidify within 30 minutes, so it's necessary to wipe away any excess between tiles.  After addressing a few rows, gently pound the tiles down with your hand or a rubber mallet to ensure levelness.

Depending on the layout of the room, you'll have to cut tiles into odd shapes.  Tile nippers or tile saws are available at any hardware store.  Mark all lines with a pencil before cutting to ensure an exact match.

There's no need to be intimidated.  You can learn how to install bathroom tile through our blog posts and instructional videos.  We offer a lot of information to consumers, helping them cut costs on home projects!
